Divine Chocolate is proudly farmer co-owned.

Divine Chocolate is the only Fairtrade chocolate company that is co-owned by cocoa farmers. The farmers of the Kuapa Kokoo cocoa cooperative in Ghana who grow our cocoa, also co-own the business. Divine pays Fairtrade prices and premiums for every possible ingredient, funds farmer-led community programmes such as literacy and numeracy courses, and shares distributable profits with the farmers of Kuapa Kokoo.

Putting Fairness First

As the only Fairtrade chocolate company co-owned by farmers, we always act with integrity and prioritise equality.

All natural ingredients and flavours

No nasties in our chocolate, and never any monoculture crops like palm oil or soy.

High cocoa content

The majority of our chocolate is 70% cocoa or above. More cocoa means a rich, bold flavour, and importantly, more money for cocoa farmers.

Eco-friendly

All of our packaging is fully recyclable and orders placed on this website are sent from our carbon negative warehouse, using eco-friendly packaging materials.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

Life-changing impact

For Kuapa Kokoo and Divine, encouragement and mentoring of women has always been a priority. Investing in programmes designed to teach valuable personal and professional skills is helping thousands of women bring money into their families, even during cocoa’s off-season.

With financing from Divine, Kuapa Kokoo has established targeted activities, including adult literacy and numeracy classes, primarily focused on women. Many cocoa farmers never completed nor started their formal education. In these programmes, farmers learn to read and count. They understanding pricing and run better businesses, positively impacting household incomes and driving real change.

Empowering Women

For over ten years, Divine Chocolate has run adult literacy and numeracy programmes in collaboration with Kuapa Kokoo.

Ohemaa Dede Okesie Narh used skills gained from the Adult Literacy course, put two of her children through university, and can now help her grandchildren with their homework. Hear her story…

Empowering Women

Education has far reaching benefits for Kuapa Kokoo cocoa farmers.

Hear from Mary Lamptey, who has high ambitions to break the glass ceiling in her district and win the award for Best Cocoa Farmer.

Education has helped her become a better cocoa farmer and she is proud to have been able to sponsor her children through their education, something she did not receive as a child.

PROTECTING TENANTS AND FARMERS

Providing peace of mind

Many cocoa farmers work with tenant farmers to help them grow cocoa. Tenant farmers do many tasks such as weeding, caring for, and harvesting cocoa trees. However, most agreements between farmer land-owners and their tenant farmers are verbal and informal. Understandably, this can lead to misunderstandings and disagreements.

Divine Chocolate and Kuapa Kokoo work to replace verbal agreements with written contracts, meaning that both tenants and farmers can be reassured and are protected.

A CLEAR VIEW, A FAIRER FUTURE

The gift of clear vision

Cocoa farmers do very detailed work, for which they need to be able to see well. Whether it be hand-pollination of cocoa flowers, precise tree pruning or spotting and removing bad cocoa beans during the drying process. And yet, with the average age of a cocoa farmer being 52 years old, many have poor sight and struggle with these tasks. Divine works with Vision Spring to screen the eyesight of cocoa farmers and, if needed, provide them with glasses - during the latest screening 62% of farmers were provided with glasses. It is expected that average monthly incomes increase by an average of 33% once corrective eyewear is used.
